He was board certified in criminal trial law by The Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization in 1989. His board certification was renewed in 1994, 1999 and 2004. Board certification required that he demonstrate substantial experience in criminal trial law, pass a written examination in criminal trial law and receive a favorable evaluation of his ability and experience in criminal trial law from judges and other lawyers.

George is married and the father of one son. His personal interests include a variety of outdoor activities. He is an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Tampa and has served two terms (1997-2000 and 2005-2008) on the vestry. He is a fourth generation native Floridian.
